Weather wane

Resisting the urge to borrow inspiration from the Bulwer-Lytton contest and describe the dark and not-so-stormy day, I'll just say that this is just a weather wane that I saw on one of my runs on a dark and ....

RGB balloons and jet streams

These are from today's San Jose Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon.

There were tons (no pun intended) of airplanes taking off from the nearby airport, but none close enough to the lamp in the picture to get a good shot. Finally, the aviation gods decided to have mercy on me - after waiting for about an hour, a jet showed up, far away, but close enough to the lamp, for the picture.

Leaves under the water?

While on a hike in a woody area a couple of months ago, I came across this little pond of absolutely still water. The reflection of the leaves in the water was surreal to the point where you couldn't really make out where reality ended and reflection began. Reminiscent of an M. C. Escher creation.

Pictures from Alaska

Here are some pictures from a recent trip to Alaska.

A lamp and its reflection in the sunset at midnight.

Somewhere along a railroad that runs along the coast not too far from Anchorage, Alaska.

Things in the rear view mirror are larger than they appear.

Blooming lupines with snow-covered mountains in the background.

Sunset around midnight in Anchorage.

Butterfly with an "in your face" attitude

This was during a hike. The first image is that of a beautiful butterfly. The second one is what he really looks like. The E-500 is great. When I took the picture, I just thought it would be cool to snap a butterfly up close. But, I didn't realize how "up close" it was until, after downloading the image to a computer, I was able to zoom until I got his eyes and the hair on his back.

Picture postcard from Hawaii

This one is from Hawaii. Taken on a lazy morning while trying out my new camera. You can click on it to magnify. The black-and-white one is that of a kayaker in the ocean with white sand in the foreground. The second one just seemed to capture the idllyic state of my mind.

snapping the frames of life

Recently, I bought a new digital SLR - the Olympus E-500. Ever since, I've been captivated by capturing "cool" stuff. This is where I'll try to put some of it up.
